I really love this essay and how you bring us so intimately and exquisitely into the unlikeliness of this life that you found your way into with such a quiet, organic unfolding. As a longtime follower and admirer of your work itβs a privilege to get such a generous look into the textures of your worlds, both external and internal. Grateful to get to read more of your longform writing here π
So touched by this- in its entirety!! specially this one β..sometimes the act of choosing something, even if itβs been there all along, is novel enough. That re-committing is its own kind of regeneration.β Loved how reading this made time sinewy, thank you!!
I feel this way about my town, Scranton, PA. Itβs not a small town, but itβs old timey. Thereβs a way to do business with small mom and pop shops in 100-year-old buildings where they know your name and ask about the things you care about that make it feel small. Iβve lived in a lot of places, both big and small, and Scranton feels like home. I feel settled here in a way I never have anywhere else.
Thatβs wonderfulβthose personal connections are so meaningful. No matter what mood Iβm in, stopping to chat with Colleen at the post office always brightens my day.

Love it, as always.
beautiful...such a visceral coming and staying of home xo
Great piece. Love Chatham. Here's my piece about the town from March 2021, just starting to go back out into the world. https://susiekaufman.substack.com/p/mud-season
